Wildcraft Urban was born out of a love and reverence for the wild landscape of southern California that lives deep inside the hearts of Piper Lacy and Greg Regan, owners of W.U. They both grew up in the canyons and on the beaches of north county San Diego. The aromas of the landscape are tied to their earliest memories and embedded in their childhood. Both were born in San Diego and have lived most of their lives in Encinitas, California. Piper and Greg are both deeply inspired by the landscape of southern California and their work is founded in the desire to connect with the wild lands and facilitate helping others discover this connection as well. We protect what we love. And as we fall in love with the natural world around us, we will tend more toward its protection, preservation and restoration.
Piper Lacy is an artisan distiller, plant advocate, gardener, mother and co-owner, along with her husband Greg Regan, of Wildcraft Urban. She is a certified in hydrosol distillation, and has studied Plant Communication with Cathy Skipper at the School for Aromatic Studies. She has also studied advanced alchemical techniques with Circle H Institute, founded by Ann Harman, the leader in hydrosol research in the U.S. She has a B.A. in Religious Studies with a minor in Mathematics from CSU Chico, where she co-founded and operated the campus-wide Composting Program.
Greg Regan is an artist, soccer coach, photographer, gardener and creator of all design and web-related content for Wildcraft Urban. He is also a lover of plants and has been slowly transforming the family's home landscape into a permaculture / native garden wonderland. This is an effort to bring back the beauty of the natural landscape into the small property that they call home. This is a labor of pure love with an aim to extend the wilderness for plants and animals alike, just a little farther into the suburban / urban sprawl.
Piper and Greg work with people of all ages to promote a relationship and reciprocity with plants. Piper is a public speaker and educator, exploring how humans can connect with plants through aromatics, distillation and just learning how to meet them in a more intimate way. Wildcraft Urban offers classes and workshops in Distillation, Hydrosols, and Re-Connecting with Plants. In addition, W.U. offers consultation in establishing native / medicinal / aromatic plant gardens as well as custom distillation services when plants are ready for harvest.
“The goal of Wilcraft Urban is to bring the wild back into our urban and suburban landscapes and enter into a relationship with the plants and animals of the local wilderness.” The couple's deepest desire is to see people and their impact get “smaller” as they begin to blend back in with the original landscape that was here long before them and will be here long after. They believe that forming a relationship with the “wild” around us will be vital as we move into the future in a more respectful and sustainable way on this planet.
Piper, Greg and their two daughters currently live and work in Encinitas, California. They spend much of their time working on local restoration projects as well as creating a wild “classroom” on their own property to inspire others to work with wild plants in their own backyards. They believe that if we all make small steps in our own lives, together we can bring about massive change in returning to a more reciprocal relationship with the natural world around us.
